Conserving Endangered Spaces
An ecoregion is as a large unit of land or water that contains geographically distinct groups of species, natural communities, and environmental conditions. Ecoregions do not have fixed boundaries, but expand a cross vast landscapes and transcend national boundaries . WWF has identified 238 ecoregions that should be a priority for conservation action. WWF calls these critical ecoregions the Global 200 that together represent outstanding examples of biodiversity from every continent and ocean basin.Of the 238 globally important ecoregions, 53 are located in Latin America and the Caribbean region (LAC) and are listed below.
Currently, WWF is ambitiously pursuing multiyear initiatives to conserve the biodiversity of 19 ecoregions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
